Waterfront at night

I’ve been playing with my Waterfront stamp set today and had the idea of stamping directly onto the night sky page of Twinkle Twinkle dsp.

I like using white ink but it is quite opaque so I realised I would need to build the scene up in layers if I didn’t want the stars to show through.

I started with memento black and stamped the bottom area using one of the larger waterfront stamps, I kept stamping until I was happy that the dsp pattern wasn't showing through. I then stamped the mountains, trees and moon, again in black.

Once the black ink was dry, which only took a few minutes I stamped in the following order - mountains in white, mountains in smoky slate and then the mountain peaks in white. Next the moon in white then in so saffron followed by the trees in white then shaded spruce, lastly I stamped a white streak to look like light reflecting off the water below the moon.

The sentiment has been stamped in night of navy and comes from the Butterfly Gala set.

I'm quite pleased with how it turned out, the paper really does do 'night sky' perfectly.

#simplestamping Hello Cupcake

Hi and welcome to February! I thought I'd have a go at the simple stamping challenge this month, the idea is to focus on stamping, showing what can be achieved with minimal supplies. The challenge in February is to create birthday cards using a stamp set and inks with the addition only of designer series paper.

For my first card I have chosen to use the sale-a-bration item Hello Cupcake.

I love this set and honestly think I would have bought it if it hadn't been a free choice. It stamps really well, is easy to line up and the cupcake image is a good size.

The dsp Twinkle, Twinkle is really versatile, the key colours are pool party, soft sea foam and petal pink. Each pack contains 12 designs (6 double sided sheets) and I have only used approx. 1/6th of a single sheet.

If you purchase the items required to make this card (see the product list below) you can get the stamp set for free as your sale-a-bration item.

You could easily make 40 cards with this purchase and have plenty of dsp left over, such good value for a new crafter!

Hearts and flowers

It’s been a perfect day for crafting today, bitterly cold outside with heavy snow forecast! I’ve made another ‘love’ themed card, the sentiment I’ve used makes it perfect for an engagement or wedding.

The colour combo is mint macaron, soft sea foam and blushing bride with very vanilla for the card base and sentiment. I have also used the very vanilla side of the delightfully detailed laser-cut paper, I’ve used a small section of one of the full sheets, just enough to fill the heart.

I started by cutting a square of blushing bride cardstock big enough to sit comfortably behind the heart cut out. I then cut a piece of the laser cut paper and adhered it to the pink layer using sticky tape around the edges. The mint macaron layer is 140mm square and the heart shape has been cut out of the centre. Once cut I embossed the layer using the subtles embossing folder, it gives a lovely linen-like texture.

The heart shape was cut again in soft sea foam which contrasts nicely with both the green and pink colours of the two main layers. The sentiment, which comes from the set Better Together is stamped in smoky slate and cut out using the new stitched rectangle framelits and it's all finished off with a mint macaron sequin and twine bow.

Love......these framelits

I’m going to have a go at the simple stamping challenge in February, the challenge is to make birthday cards using just stamps, ink and designer series paper. No dies, no embellishments😲 but I’ll give it a go!

In the meantime........

.......here is a card which is made from just die cut cardstock and embellishments, no stamping at all. A stamped sentiment could be added but I wanted the design to be centre stage and with just the word ‘love’ it’s perfect for Valentine’s Day, an anniversary, engagement or wedding.

The colour combination of blushing bride, sahara sand and very vanilla is a favourite of mine and I love Stamping' Up! linen thread with the new needlepoint nook buttons.

Beauty Abounds

There are two butterfly sets in the new Spring Summer Catalogue, I was sold on Butterfly Gala (the one with the punch) straight away and thought I’d give the other one, Beauty Abounds a miss.

However, as is so often the case, I started seeing some amazing cards made using this set. I particularly like the texture elements in the stamp set and I think I will use it without the butterflies as much as I will use it with them.

My first card uses both the stamps and the two very large butterfly collection dies.

The main colours here are lemon lime twist and lovely lipstick with the addition of pool party and grapefruit grove. I liked the idea of placing the butterflies off the edge of the card and the partial butterfly in the top right hand corner is an off cut from the main piece. The background is randomly stamped, I love that 'freehand' look. The sentiment is one of my favourites and comes from Picture Perfect Birthday.

The second card is much more subtle with just stamping and a little colouring with watercolour pencils and a blender pen. The colours in the floral scrolls are daffodil delight, pumpkin pie and old olive, in the butterfly, old olive has been replaced with bermuda bay.

The third card is a little one, 4" square (100mm). The card base is pool party, the stamped colours are pool party, blushing bride and so saffron with memento black for the sentiment. I like the effect of cutting the stamped layer into strips, letting a little of the background colour show through. I love this colour combo too, we're a long way from summer but this makes me think of ice cream!

The last card I've made is in neutral colours, sahara sand, crumb cake, soft suede and early espresso. Cutting the butterflies was a bit of a labour of love but amazingly you can cut 10 in one go with the dies in the set. The sentiment is from the host set Hand Delivered and the die cut circle is from Stitched Labels Framelits.
