Casually Crafting Design Team Blog Hop - Sketch Challenge - Birthday Fishes

This is my second time participating in a blog hop as part of the Casually Crafting Design Team. The theme this month is a sketch challenge.

Sketch challenges are a really great way to get inspired as you can pick up pretty much any stampset and follow the sketch. You will find lots of ideas if you hop over to the other blogs (links below), I bet all the projects will be totally different.

My card features the lovely Whale Done stamp set with a co-ordinating punch and soon to be retired dsp. A piece of dsp is used to create the background layer with a poppy parade cardstock border top and bottom.

The whale has been stamped in misty moonlight with the white area coloured with a soft sea foam blend and then it has been cut using the co-ordinating punch.

The top layer has been stamped using the two seaweed stamps, the bubbles and the fish using just jade, soft sea foam, pool party and misty moonlight. The edge of the layer has been softened by stamping the jellyfish tentacles in pool party both full strength and stamped off once. The sentiment is stamped in poppy parade to match the cardstock layers with the words cut apart.

I've lightly marked the card base with a pencil where the dsp layer will go and again stamped the jellyfish so that just the tentacles will be visible.

The dsp layer has been stuck directly to the card base. The image layer has been added using dimensionals, as has the whale.

Finally I couldn't resist adding some of the clear Flowers for Every Season gems (retiring) above the whales blow hole. I love these gems and really hope there will be something similar in the new catalogue.

I hope you have enjoyed seeing this card come together, don't forget to check out the other blogs in the hop.

If you are interested in purchasing any of the products I've used then you will find links to my online shop at the bottom.

Thanks for looking x

  4. This is a beautiful card Katie, so clever to put the jellyfish behind! And love how you have built up the focal point with some simple layer stamping. Fabulous.
