Casually Crafting Design Team Blog Hop - Anything Goes - In the garden

Ok so this is a first for me, I'm taking part in a blog hop!

I have joined the Casually Crafting Design Team and am really looking forward to sharing with you some projects aimed at the less experienced crafter who perhaps is just building up their craft kit and doesn't have every tool.....yet.

The theme this month is anything goes, so a blank canvas really. I can't wait to see the other crafter's projects. You will find links to their blog posts below so do hop over and take a look.

My card features a lovely stamp set called Dragonfly Garden, I've used the garden bit rather than the dragonflies even though they are gorgeous.

There are a few interesting techniques here including blending and spotlight colouring, read on for more details.

The first thing I did was cut a square of basic white cardstock and another, slightly larger square of smoky slate. The tag has been created using the Scallop Tag Topper, the smoky slate piece is 5cm wide, the basic white piece is a fraction narrower.

The flowers have been stamped in smoky slate randomly along the bottom of the white square and on the tag. I used a Stamparatus to line up the stamped images but as the tag has a small grey border you could probably get away with doing it by eye.

Spotlight colouring is when you add colour to just one specific area of an image, here the obvious choice was to add colour to the tag.

I've used the wonderful new blending brushes to add green and blue tones to the background.

The best advise I can give with this type of blending is to build up the colour slowly, start with the lightest colour you intend to use and tap off the excess ink before 'brushing' your card in a circular motion. These new brushes blend beautifully and if you have the patience to build up the layers of colour slowly then you will get stunning results.

I've stamped the sentiment in misty moonlight and then used a selection of Stampin' blends to add colour to the flowers and foliage.

I have added the square layers to a 6 inch square card base and positioned the label to the right. A loop of granite gray shimmer ribbon finishes off the design nicely.

I hope you have enjoyed seeing this card come together, don't forget to check out the other blogs in the hop.

If you are interested in purchasing any of the products I've used then you will find links to my online shop at the bottom.

Thanks for looking x
